A Word from the Director
“Like What Would Sorrow Look is my most personal work, as I play an alternate version of myself in the film. I wanted to make a film that balances dark and humorous tones, set against a specific local backdrop. In the writing process, I was inspired by the stories of fellow queer friends who wish to see their experiences represented in film.”
The Director
Hao Zhou (周豪) is a filmmaker from southwest China. An alum of the Cinéfondation Résidence and Berlinale Talents, Zhou has directed an indie feature The Night (夜), which premiered at the Berlinale Panorama. Zhou’s short film Frozen Out (无地自容) was a Student Academy Awards gold medal winner and screened at Frameline, BFI Flare, NewFest, and many other festivals. Currently Zhou is working on multiple narrative and nonfiction projects.
